Just Stop Oil protestors halted a performance of Les Miserables at the Sondheim Theatre in the West End of London resulting in five arrests.

The Metropolitan Police were called to a protest in the theatre at about 9pm. After taking to the stage during the Act One finale One Day More, protestors stopped the show with the cast being escorted from the stage after they attempted to continue. Protestors locked themselves to the stage using flexible bicycle locks.

Footage of the event was posted on various social media platforms where the audience can be heard booing and yelling at protestors to “Get Off”.

Chief Executive of Delfont Mackintosh Theatres William Village issued the following statement:- “During the first half of our performance of Les Miserables individuals from Just Stop Oil invaded the stage, abruptly stopping the show. Following our safety protocols, the audience were asked to leave the auditorium and the Met Police attended. Regrettably, there was insufficient time to enable us to complete the rest of the performance. Whilst we recognise the importance of free expression, we mjst also respect our audience’s right to enjoy the event for which they have paid.

Tickets purchased through Delfont Mackintosh Theatres will be automatically refunded. If you booked through a ticket agent or third party, please contact your point of purchase to obtain a refund.”
