Come From Away West End – Come From Away tickets

Come From Away is a Canadian musical that looks at what happened on September 11, when US airspace closed and 38 planes were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland. Come From Away the musical is currently running on Boadway and in London.

Come From Away the musical has book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankhoff and David Hein. The actors in Come From Away play the residents of Gander and a selection of the passengers of the planes who ended up staying for 54 days doubling the population of the town in a few hours.

The show is a one-act musical running approximately 90 minutes with the text and songs derived from hundreds of interviews undertaken by the writers when Gander celebrated the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and many of the “plane people” returned. Come From Away the musical reminds us of the capacity for human kindness in the darkest of times.

Workshops for the musical started in 2012 at a college in Ontario, before playing the La Jolla Playhouse and the Seattle Repertory Theatre in 2015, in Washington and Ontario in 2016. Come From Away the musical opened on Broadway on 12 March 2017 becoming a smash hit. In 2018 it became the longest-running Canadian musical in Broadway history.

Come From Away opened at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin in 2018 before transferring to the Phoenix Theatre, London in February 2019.

Come From Away the musical was nominated for seven 2017 Tony Awards winning for Best Director. In 2019, Come From Away was nominated for 9 Laurence Olivier Awards winning 4 including Best Musical. It also won the 2019 Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Musical.

Productions of Come From Away closed and went into hiatus when the pandemic hit in March 2020. London has now re-opened, Broadway was recently filmed and televised on AppleTV to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
