Thirty-six years after its debut at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London, The Phantom Of The Opera has played almost everywhere in the world.
The Phantom Of The Opera has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart and a book by Richard Stilgoe. It is based on the novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux.
The musical opened in London in 1986 and on Broadway in 1988, winning the Olivier Award for Best Musical in 1986 and the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1988.
The Phantom Of The Opera is the longest-running show in Broadway history where it has surpassed more than 10,000 performances and the second-longest-running West End musical after Les Miserables.
The musical originally featured Michael Crawford as the Phantom and Sarah Brightman as Christine Daae.
The Phantom Of The Opera was directed for the stage by Hal Prince and designed by Maria Bjornson.
In 2010, the musical’s sequel Love Never Dies opened at the Adelphi Theatre London where it ran for 17 months.
