London Theatre Week announces one week extension
London Theatre Week, the highly anticipated performing arts celebration spotlighting dynamic musicals and award-winning plays in London’s West End, is extending until 10 Sept.
Sister Act the Musical is based on the 1992 film of the same name which featured Whoopi Goldberg. It features music by Alan Mencken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, and additional material by Douglas Carter Beane.
Sister Act the musical opened in the West End at the London Palladium on 2 June 2009 following US regional tryouts in Pasadena, California in 2006 and Atlanta, Georgia in 2007. It has since received productions on Broadway 2011, US and UK Tours and a West End revival in 2022.
The original London production would even see Whoopi Goldberg take to the stage for a limited engagement as Mother Superior to the delight of audiences. The 2022 West End revival featured the talents of Beverley Knight, Sandra Marvin, Jennifer Saunders, Lesley Joseph, Jeremy Secomb, Clive Rowe, Lizzie Bea, and Keala Settle.
Sister Act is set to return to the West End in 2024 starring Beverley Knight as Delores Van Cartier.
