The Woman In Black announces cast for West End re-opening
Casting has been announced for the re-opening of Susan Hill’s The Woman In Black at the Fortune Theatre, London.
Originally performed at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, The Woman In Black has now been running in London’s West End for over 30 years. The play is now the second longest-running non-musical play in West End history (The Mousetrap retains first place).
The Woman in Black is based on the 1983 book by Susan Hill and adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt and has three actors performing the entire play.
A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.
The play is currently used as a live theatre performance in the GCSE and IGCSE Drama curricula and as a basis for comparative essays and sometimes theatre reviews.
The Woman In Black is now playing at the Fortune Theatre London.
