Dirk Darrow Comes to the Edinburgh Fringe 2018

Australia’s favourite comedy psychic detective will make his Scottish premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe 2018.

Dirk Darrow comes to Edinburgh FringeHaving won fringe festival awards around the world with it’s crazy cross genre appeal, 2 Ruby Knockers, 1 Jaded Dick – A Dirk Darrow Investigation comes to the this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. A cunningly disguised lterary parody, this genre-smashing play is also one of the only stage shows in the world which incorporates magic into a story that’s about anything other than magic. In this case, it’s about a bank heist!

The show is part stand-up comedy, part mentalism, part magic, part story-telling, and all gritty retro film-noir.  Along with it’s predecessor Dirk Darrow: NCSSI and it’s more recent sequel 6 Quick Dick Tricks, this cross-genre detective yarn trilogy is a completely unique take on the 1930’s crime caper.  Whereas the first show concentrated on genre spoofing, and the 3rd on the tricks, 2 Ruby Knockers… is scripted as a stand-alone piece to parody an obscure 90 year old story from the master crime fiction writer and grand-daddy of all noir, Dashiell Hammett (author of the Maltese Falcon).  Plus, the show is rife with explosions, murders, and technically difficult knuckle-busting sleight of hand.  Think Sam Spade meets Naked Gun meets Penn & Teller.

Dirk Darrow’s creator, Tim Motley, has performed in 47 countries from shantytowns and riots in South Africa to celebrity audiences such as Richard Branson, Baz Luhrmann, and Lachlan Murdoch. Tim has created and performed in 9 different shows in Australia, the USA, Canada, and all over Europe.  He has been a frequent guest on Melbourne’s Channel 31 and Ireland’s Channel 4.  His exploits also include being a radio chat show host for RRR Melbourne and URE England.  Tim hails from America, but now lives in Adelaide, Australia.

2 Ruby Knockers, 1 Jaded Dick – A Dirk Darrow Investigation will play at Ushers at Counting House from 2 – 26 August 2018 as part of the Edinburgh Fringe 2018.
