Les lauréats des Lucille Lortel Awards 2020 annoncés – virtuellement !

Les Lucille Lortel Awards 2020, honorant les productions Off-Broadway, ont été célébrés et annoncés le 3 mai 2020. Les récompenses pour la saison abrégée qui s'est déroulée de 2019 à 2020 ont vu Mario Cantone en tant qu'hôte (diffusant depuis son appartement à New York), avec des bénéfices allant au Actors Fund et ses efforts pour aider ceux qui sont touchés par la crise COVID-19. Cette année, les prix ont mis en valeur un champ de 101 productions éligibles (55 pièces, 19 comédies musicales et 19 reprises), 41 spectacles ont été reconnus avec un total de 95 nominations. Parmi les grands gagnants de la soirée, avec trois victoires chacun, on trouve la production du Signature Theatre de la comédie musicale Octet de Dave Malloy et la production de Playwrights Horizons de la pièce de Will Arbery Heroes of the Fourth Turning — toutes deux en première mondiale — remportant respectivement le prix de la meilleure comédie musicale et de la meilleure pièce. La production de Playwrights de A Strange Loop par Michael R. Jackson, la production du Vineyard de Dana H. par Lucas Hnath, et la reprise du Public Theater de for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf de Ntozake Shange ont chacune remporté deux prix. Cette cérémonie de remise de prix était différente des autres, avec les autres hôtes prenant part depuis leurs lieux d'isolement respectifs.
