Tips for Booking Last-Minute Theatre Tickets in London

Weeknight performances are your best bet. Tuesday to Thursday evenings typically have the widest seat selection and lowest prices. Weekend and Saturday matinee performances sell out furthest in advance.

Midweek matinees are hidden gold. Wednesday and Thursday afternoon shows are often the least busy performances of the week — ideal for last-minute availability at great prices.

Long-running shows have better availability. Musicals like The Lion King, Wicked, Mamma Mia!, and Phantom of the Opera run eight shows a week across hundreds of seats. Last-minute tickets are almost always available, even for the biggest names.

New shows and limited runs sell out faster. If a show has recently opened or has a closing date, same-day tickets will be harder to find. Book these further ahead if you can.

Check back often. Availability changes throughout the day as tickets are released, returned, or repriced. A show that looked sold out in the morning may have seats available by lunchtime.
