What is Moulin Rouge! The Musical about?
Paris, 1899. A young composer, Christian, falls desperately in love with Satine, the dazzling star of the Moulin Rouge nightclub. But Satine has been promised to the wealthy Duke of Monroth, who threatens to close the club if she doesn't become his. As Christian and his Bohemian friends create a show to save the Moulin Rouge, a love triangle unfolds with tragic consequences.
How is the Moulin Rouge musical different from the film?
The stage show stays faithful to Baz Luhrmann's vision while updating the soundtrack with contemporary hits. The 'Elephant Love Medley' now includes songs like 'Shut Up and Dance' and 'Rolling in the Deep'. The theatrical experience adds a new dimension - the Piccadilly Theatre itself has been transformed, with a working red windmill on the exterior and opulent Belle Époque decor throughout.
What songs are in Moulin Rouge! The Musical?
The show features over 70 songs including 'Your Song', 'Lady Marmalade', 'Roxanne', 'Come What May', 'El Tango de Roxanne', 'Rolling in the Deep', 'Firework', 'Chandelier', 'Shut Up and Dance', 'Diamonds Are Forever', and 'Crazy'. The famous 'Elephant Love Medley' alone contains over 20 songs seamlessly woven together.
What are the best seats for Moulin Rouge?
For the ultimate immersive experience, the Can Can seats at the front of the Stalls place you right in the heart of the action - performers dance around you. The Stalls and Dress Circle offer excellent views of the stunning set. The Royal Circle provides a great overview but is further from the action. The Piccadilly Theatre's lavish transformation is worth admiring from any seat.
Is Moulin Rouge! better than the film?
They're different experiences. The stage show captures the film's energy and visual extravagance while adding the thrill of live performance. Hearing 'Roxanne' performed live with the tango sequence unfolding before you, or experiencing the confetti-filled finale, creates magic that can't be replicated on screen.
