Tony Awards 2020 Nominations Announced

Nominations have been announced for the Tony Awards 2020 which will honour Broadway productions in a season cut short by to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge! and Slave Play lead the Tony Awards 2020 nominees which were delayed in a season cut short by COVID-19.
James Monroe Iglehart hosted the nominations announced this week which you can watch above.
In the musicals race Jagged Little Pill - The Alanis Morissette musical lead the pack with 15 nominations. The musical earned at least one nomination in every eligible category. Moulin Rouge earned 14 nominations. Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge! are joined by Tina : The Tina Turner Musical in the race for Best Musical
In the plays race, Jeremy O Harris' Slave Play garnered 12 nominations (the most ever for a play), whilst Matthew Lopez's The Inheritance received 11 nominations. Joining them in the Best Play category are Grand Horizons by Bess Wohl, The Sound Inside by Adam Rapp and Sea Wall/A Life by Simon Stephens and Nick Payne.
Eighteen productions are in the running for the Tony Awards 2020 due to the eligibility cut off date being changed due to the Broadway shut down on 12 March which is likely to continue through to at least June 2021 and possibly beyond.
No announcement about date of the virtual Tony Awards 2020 awards ceremony has been made as yet.
