A gripping new stage adaptation of Josephine Tey’s classic mystery that asks: what if history got it wrong?
Based on Josephine Tey's celebrated 1951 mystery novel, The Daughter of Time follows a hospitalised Scotland Yard detective who, confined to his bed, decides to investigate a 500-year-old cold case: did Richard III really murder the Princes in the Tower? Through meticulous historical detective work conducted entirely from his hospital room, he begins to unravel centuries of propaganda and discover that the accepted version of history may be entirely wrong.
This is one of the most intellectually engaging plays in the London repertoire. The production transforms a historical investigation into gripping theatrical entertainment, combining the pleasures of a detective story with genuine historical scholarship. For anyone fascinated by English history, the mystery of the Princes in the Tower, or the power of propaganda to shape our understanding of the past, this is essential viewing.
The Daughter of Time plays in London periodically. Check current listings for venue and dates. The play is suitable for teenagers and adults with an interest in history and mystery. The running time is typically around two hours.
For more historical mystery, consider Witness for the Prosecution for immersive courtroom drama, The Mousetrap for classic Agatha Christie, or Wolf Hall for more Tudor drama.
