Great Scott! The beloved 1985 film comes to life at the Adelphi Theatre in this spectacular musical adaptation. When teenager Marty McFly is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean, he must ensure his parents fall in love or risk erasing his own existence. Winner of the Olivier and WhatsOnStage Awards for Best New Musical. Closing 12 April 2026 before UK tour.
Marty McFly is a rock 'n' roll teenager whose life is turned upside down when his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown's time machine accidentally sends him back to 1955. Stranded in the past, Marty accidentally prevents his parents from meeting - threatening his very existence. He must find the younger Doc Brown, convince him he's from the future, and somehow get his awkward teenage father to win the heart of his mother, all before returning to 1985.
Back to the Future The Musical opened at the Adelphi Theatre in September 2021 and has been thrilling audiences for over 5 years, playing nearly 2,000 performances. The production closes on 12 April 2026, before embarking on a UK tour from October 2026. Over 4 million people worldwide have seen the show.
Yes! The show's jaw-dropping special effects include a DeLorean that appears to hit 88 miles per hour and travel through time right before your eyes. The spectacular staging, including pyrotechnics, has audiences gasping with delight. This is one of the most technically ambitious musicals in the West End.
The musical features beloved songs from the film including 'The Power of Love' and 'Johnny B. Goode', plus new songs by multi-Grammy winners Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. Original numbers include 'It's Only a Matter of Time', 'Pretty Baby', 'Gotta Start Somewhere', and 'For the Dreamers'.
For the full impact of the DeLorean's time travel sequence and other spectacular effects, the centre Stalls and front Dress Circle at the Adelphi Theatre offer the best perspectives. The show's video design and lighting effects work beautifully from most seats.
The musical brings something the film can't - the thrill of live theatre. Seeing the DeLorean appear to travel through time in front of you, combined with the energy of a live cast and new songs, creates pure theatrical magic. Fans of the film will love the faithful adaptation while enjoying the new musical additions.
