Theatre Royal Drury Lane is set to host the much-anticipated London production of Disney's Hercules, starring Luke Brady in the title role. The show, which opens on 24 June 2025 following previews beginning on 6 June, promises to bring the mythic tale of strength and heroism to life, with performances scheduled to run until 10 January 2026.
Luke Brady, acclaimed for his roles in The Prince of Egypt and the Royal Shakespeare Company's As You Like It, has been cast as Hercules, the legendary hero who must prove himself worthy of living with the gods on Mount Olympus. With his remarkable vocal and acting prowess, Brady is expected to deliver a powerful performance as the beloved demi-god.
The musical, inspired by the 1997 animated Disney film, has been adapted for the stage with a brand-new book by Robert Horn, known for Tootsie, and Kwame Kwei-Armah, former Artistic Director of the Young Vic. The narrative has been updated to resonate with contemporary audiences while retaining the charm and adventure of the original story.
Music by the legendary Alan Menken and lyrics by David Zippel, who were both behind the original film's score, will feature in this production alongside new songs crafted specifically for the stage version. These additions are designed to deepen the emotional impact of the story and enhance the portrayal of the characters.
Directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw, whose credits include Aladdin and The Book of Mormon, and co-choreographed by Tanisha Scott, known for her work with major music stars, the production promises to be a dynamic and visually stunning interpretation of Hercules' epic journey. The creative team’s vision aims to transform the Theatre Royal Drury Lane into a world of gods and monsters, love and comedy, with cutting-edge stage technology and set designs that push the boundaries of theatrical production.
The production also includes an impressive supporting team with set and additional video design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Gregg Barnes and Sky Switser, and lighting by Jeff Croiter, ensuring that every aspect of the show is polished and immersive.
With priority booking already open and public sales set to begin on 7 November, theatre-goers are encouraged to secure their seats early, especially for the special access performances, which include captioned, signed, relaxed, and audio-described options to cater to all audiences.
Hercules at Theatre Royal Drury Lane is not just a retelling of a classical myth but a celebration of musical theatre, combining timeless stories with contemporary artistry to create something truly spectacular.
