Panto cancellations and theatre redundancies a running tally

We've been seeing so many postings about panto cancellations and theatre redundancies we've decided to put together a daily updated tally of the impact on the theatre industry.

The theatre industry is in the middle of one of the greatest threats to its existence which has been ignited by the COVID-19 pandemic threatening panto cancellations and theatre redundancies.

Theatres across the country are in the midst of enormous redundancy consultations following a lengthy government delay in announcing arts industry funding. These redundancies are now being ramped up following delays by the government on guidance which mean that the 2020-21 pantomime season nationally is more than likely to be cancelled completely.

With the pantomime season generating profits used by theatres to cover their operating costs for the following year and the impact on associated businesses who supply theatres and the production companies, the knock-on effect is likely to be catastrophic.

At the present time, more than 3000 theatre freelancers have fallen through the cracks receiving no furlough, no benefits, and little support for over 4 months now. This is an untenable position.
