We are pleased to report that last night with the re-opening of the Playhouse Theatre, every West End Theatre is now re-opened for business having been judged by the government to be "Non-viable" just over a year ago. Moulin Rouge now in previews at the Piccadilly Theatre. West End Theatres have re-opened for business With Cabaret the musical starting previews last night at the Playhouse Theatre, we can now report that all West End Theatres have now re-opened for business for the first time since the onset of COVID-19. In March 2020, in an unprecedented move in modern times, every West End Theatre would be forced to close its doors. On the 15th November 2021 every theatre was open. New challenges no doubt remain but the theatre industry and audiences alike were keen to get back. It took 609 very long days! The re-opening of West End Theatre was led by the West End's longest-running production Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap in a socially distanced format. In the past few days, the buzz associated with big new shows arriving in the West End has returned and the excitement is palpable. The start of previews for the eagerly awaited productions of Kander and Ebb's Cabaret starring Eddie Redmayne and Jeddie Buckley and the arrival of the stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge directed by Alex Timbers has ramped up the excitement.
