The Pleasance Theatre in London is set to debut a thrilling and laughter-packed parody of the early 2000s reality TV phenomenon, "The Simple Life," famously starring Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Titled The Simple Life & Death, this innovative production combines mystery, comedy, and a touch of cabaret to reinvent the beloved show with a murderous twist, premiering on November 27, 2024.
At the heart of this production is a reunion special gone wrong, as Hilton and Richie find themselves embroiled in a comedic murder investigation during their 20th-anniversary celebration of the original series. The stage will come alive with unexpected celebrity cameos, shocking confessions, and a dead body that throws the scheduled programming into disarray. Amidst the chaos, the duo must navigate through clues, suspects, and, of course, their iconic brand of glamorous cluelessness.
This queer cabaret extravaganza is the brainchild of ShayShay, a celebrated figure in the pan-Asian cabaret scene, who will star as Paris Hilton. Alongside ShayShay, comedian and internet star Fizz Sinclair takes on the role of Nicole Richie and a slew of other characters, promising a night of endless entertainment and intrigue.
The show also aims to challenge stereotypes and offer empowering representation, particularly for the trans community, reflecting the personal motivations and creative visions of its trans creators, ShayShay and Sinclair. They have infused the script with a blend of humour, nostalgia, and a poignant commentary on the trans experience, particularly in the face of rising anti-trans sentiments in the UK.
The Simple Life & Death runs from November 27 to December 7, 2024, with a press night on November 28. Audience members can expect 120 minutes of non-stop action and laughter, marked by an intermission. Tickets are priced starting at £22, with previews available at £15.
