The Jungle, een coproductie van het National Theatre, de Young Vic en Good Chance Theatre, maakt de overstap naar het Playhouse Theatre. Na lovende kritieken en een volledig uitverkochte reeks in de Young Vic, laten producenten Sonia Friedman Productions, Tom Kirdahy en Hunter Arnold weten verheugd te zijn met de bekendmaking van de volledige cast voor de West End-transfer van The Jungle. Het stuk van Joe Murphy en Joe Robertson is een coproductie van het National Theatre en de Young Vic met Good Chance Theatre, onder regie van Stephen Daldry en Justin Martin. De voorstelling speelt zich af in het grootste officieuze vluchtelingenkamp van Europa, de 'Jungle' van Calais, dat in 2015 tijdelijk onderdak bood aan meer dan 10.000 mensen. The Jungle verhuist naar het Playhouse Theatre, waar de traditionele schouwburgzaal een ongekende transformatie ondergaat die nog nooit eerder in een West End-theater is vertoond. De zaalvloer is volledig heringericht om plaats te bieden aan het veelgeprezen decorontwerp van Miriam Buether, bekend van de Young Vic, waarbij het publiek plaatsneemt op de banken en aan de tafels van het Afghaanse café in het kamp in Calais. Het Playhouse Theatre introduceert bovendien een gloednieuwe ervaring vanaf de eerste rang (Dress Circle), die voor de gelegenheid is omgedoopt tot de “Cliffs of Dover”. Hoewel de eerste rang zijn traditionele theaterstoelen behoudt, zal de unieke en intieme ervaring totaal anders zijn dan wat vaste bezoekers van het Playhouse Theatre gewend zijn. Men heeft zicht over de spectaculair verbouwde speelvloer die zich uitstrekt tot over de orkestbak en de zaal, aangevuld met videoschermen die close-up beelden in de stijl van een live nieuwsreportage tonen. Door de transformatie naar een 'in-the-round' opstelling wordt de capaciteit van het theater teruggebracht naar minder dan 450 stoelen. Dankzij de verkoop van tickets in het hoogste prijssegment kan 40% van de zaal worden aangeboden voor £25 of minder. Daarnaast wordt een deel van de kaarten gereserveerd voor vluchtelingen en specifieke doelgroepen om de diversiteit en toegankelijkheid te vergroten. Dit is de plek waar mensen leden en droomden.
