The Jungle, una co-produzione tra il National Theatre, lo Young Vic e il Good Chance Theatre, si trasferisce al Playhouse Theatre. Dopo l’accoglienza entusiasta della critica e una stagione tutta esaurita allo Young Vic, i produttori Sonia Friedman Productions, Tom Kirdahy e Hunter Arnold sono lieti di annunciare il cast completo per il trasferimento nel West End di The Jungle di Joe Murphy e Joe Robertson, una co-produzione tra National Theatre e Young Vic con Good Chance Theatre, con la regia di Stephen Daldry e Justin Martin. Lo spettacolo è ambientato nel più grande campo profughi informale d’Europa, la “Jungle” di Calais, che nel 2015 è diventata una casa temporanea per oltre 10.000 persone. The Jungle approda al Playhouse Theatre, dove il tradizionale teatro all’italiana sta subendo una trasformazione senza precedenti, come mai si è visto prima in un teatro del West End. La platea è stata completamente riconfigurata per accogliere la scenografia, acclamata dalla critica, di Miriam Buether così come vista allo Young Vic, dove il pubblico veniva invitato a sedersi su panche e ai tavoli del caffè afghano nel campo di Calais. Il Playhouse Theatre offrirà inoltre la nuovissima esperienza di assistere allo spettacolo dalla galleria, ribattezzata “Cliffs of Dover”. Pur mantenendo la tradizionale disposizione dei posti a sedere, l’esperienza – unica e intima – sarà del tutto diversa da qualsiasi cosa i frequentatori abituali del Playhouse Theatre abbiano mai provato, con una vista sulla drammatica trasformazione dello spazio scenico sottostante, che si estende oltre l’arco di proscenio e sopra la platea, arricchita da schermi video che trasmettono riprese in primo piano in stile “diretta da notiziario” di parte dell’azione. La trasformazione in arena riduce la capienza del teatro a meno di 450 posti. I biglietti al prezzo massimo permettono direttamente che il 40% della sala sia venduto a £25 e meno, e una quota di biglietti sarà temporaneamente trattenuta dalla vendita per essere offerta a rifugiati e a gruppi specifici, al fine di massimizzare diversità e accessibilità. Questo è il luogo in cui le persone hanno sofferto e sognato.
