立即前往 BritishTheatre.com 订票。

History

Wyndham's Theatre opened on 16 November 1899. Its first performance was a revival of David Garrick and the Prince of Wales (future King Edward VII) was present in the audience. The du Maurier family had a close association with the theatre, with Gerald conducting a 15-year association from 1910 and his daughter Daphne presenting her play The Years Between on the stage in 1940.

One of the biggest successes at the theatre was The Boy Friend, a musical pastiche that had moved from the Players’ Theatre. The show ran for 2,078 performances and transferred to Broadway. 1972 would see another musical success with Godspell (which ran for 2 years).

Many esteemed actors and celebrities graced the Wyndham's stage throughout the 1990s, including Maggie Smith (in the British premiere of Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women), Dame Diana Rigg (Medea), Albert Finney (Art) and Madonna (Up For Grabs).

After Delfont-Mackintosh took over the theatre in 2005, the venue went from strength to strength, with successful transfers of Sunday in the Park with George (Menier Chocolate Factory), The History Boys (National Theatre), and a 12-month season from the Donmar Warehouse (presenting 4 plays directed by Michael Grandage).

Wyndham's continues to host cutting edge plays and musicals.

Absolutely appalling experience. We bought two standing tickets for a play and arrived just 8 minutes after the stated start time (due to traffic congestion), only to be made to watch the play from the bar on a TV screen. This is completely unacceptable. They claimed this was their policy for latecomers and part of their T&Cs, but nowhere was this (watching the play from a TV screen) stated when we booked the tickets, not in the confirmation email. It feels misleading and unfair. Also, what musical or play actually starts exactly on the dot? None. This policy shows zero understanding or consideration for customers (especially when standing or sitting near the door, without disturbing anyone) The service was bad, the staff were unhelpful, and the whole experience was incredibly disappointing. We paid for a live theatre experience and were denied it. Needless to say, that I left the show earlier because I didn’t have any pleasure to spend 2 hours at bar. I would give 0 stars if possible. I will never come back here again.

The seats were fairly comfortable and visibility was great. There were plenty of friendly staff available to help and answer questions. Beautiful space, amazing play! The acoustics were quite good. As a first time attendee at Wyndham theatre, I was confused because all of my emails came from Delfont Macintosh, which is the group that owns the theatre, but NOT where you should go to see the play!

Located right in the heart of London near Leicester Square, this is one of the city’s historic theatres and the atmosphere is genuinely wonderful. It really does take you back in time. I have had the chance to see several great productions here, most recently All My Sons, which I thoroughly enjoyed. That said, one thing to be aware of is the seating. The legroom is very tight, and it can feel quite uncomfortable if you are sitting for a longer performance. Definitely something to keep in mind when booking.
