Awkward Productions Brings Cult Royal Comedy Back to British Stages Following International Success
Following a sold-out Edinburgh Fringe run, multiple UK tours, and a globe-trotting world tour, Awkward Productions' critically acclaimed Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story is coming home with a new UK tour in 2025. The show, a genre-defying, camp retelling of Princess Diana’s life, will play in Manchester, London, Brighton, Bristol, Newcastle, and a high-profile run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
This latest version of the show includes special multimedia appearances by Jeanna de Waal (star of Diana: The Musical) and Rob Madge (My Son’s a Queer) as the voice of Mother Teresa.
A Queer, Comedic Take on Royal History
Described as an “unhinged, gay fantasia” (Playbill), Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story reimagines the late Princess of Wales as a larger-than-life icon, telling her story from heaven. With puppetry, drag, direct audience interaction, and surreal multimedia moments, the production blends satire and homage in equal measure. It uses absurdist comedy to spotlight Diana’s cultural legacy, with a particular focus on her influence in queer and social justice spaces.

Created and performed by Linus Karp, the show was a sell-out success at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe and has won the OffFest Award for Best Play and the LAURA Award, touring four continents and building a devoted cult following.

A Global Fringe Sensation Returns Home

This homecoming tour marks the next chapter in what has become one of the most distinctive and critically celebrated cult theatre shows in recent years. According to The Reviews Hub, the production is “so much more than just a show. It’s an experience. It’s a lifestyle. It is the moment.”
Awkward Productions, known for blending satire, camp, and political commentary, previously toured hits like how to live a jellicle life and Gwyneth Goes Skiing. Their upcoming new work, The Fit Prince (who gets switched on the square in the frosty castle the night before [insert public holiday here]) will premiere at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe before a December run at the King’s Head Theatre.
Irreverent, inventive, and fiercely camp, Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story continues to challenge conventions and celebrate queer joy in the most unexpected of royal narratives. With its return to UK stages, the People’s Princess is ready—once again—to take the mic and tell her story on her terms.
