Acclaimed Musical to Release Full Cast Album Following Olivier Award Wins
Following its celebrated West End run and multiple Olivier Award wins, the original cast of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will be featured on a full cast recording, released by First Night Records. The digital release will be available on 16 May 2025, with a physical CD edition set to follow on 20 June.
The recording features all original cast members and was captured live on stage at London’s Ambassadors Theatre, where the production continues to play to critical acclaim. The album release follows the show’s recent wins at the 2025 Olivier Awards, where it took home Best New Musical, Outstanding Musical Contribution (for Darren Clark and Mark Aspinall), and Best Actor in a Musical (John Dagleish).
An Original Folk Musical Set in Cornwall
Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story, the musical adaptation by Jethro Compton (book and lyrics) and Darren Clark (music and lyrics) reimagines the tale of a man born old who ages backwards, relocating the story to a Cornish fishing village. The show is performed by a 14-strong cast of actor-musicians playing over 30 instruments live on stage.
Composer Darren Clark explained the decision to record the album live at the Ambassadors Theatre:
“We wanted to capture that particular feeling that making music together brings. This album is dedicated to all who have sailed on the good ship Button over the many years of its voyage.”
Featured Tracks and Cast
The album includes standout numbers such as:
“Shippin’ Out Tomorrow”
“Matter of Time”

“Will You Go?”

The recording stars John Dagleish as Benjamin Button and Clare Foster as Elowen Keene, supported by the full original cast including Matt Burns, Jonathan Charles, Oonagh Cox, Katy Ellis, Anna Fordham, Philippa Hogg, Damien James, Elliot Mackenzie, Ann Marcuson, Jack Quarton, Benedict Salter, Emily Panes, and Nuwan Hugh Perera.
