What is Miss Saigon about?
Boublil and Schönberg's epic musical, inspired by Puccini's Madama Butterfly, tells the story of Kim, a young Vietnamese woman, and Chris, an American GI, who fall in love during the fall of Saigon in 1975. When they are separated by the chaos of war, Kim's desperate search for Chris spans continents and years, building to a devastating climax that ranks among the most emotionally powerful in all musical theatre. The show confronts the human cost of war, the refugee experience, and the impossible choices forced upon ordinary people by extraordinary circumstances.
Why see Miss Saigon?
Miss Saigon features one of the most spectacular staging moments in theatre history — the helicopter evacuation of the American embassy — alongside a score of extraordinary emotional power. The role of Kim demands a performer of rare vocal ability and dramatic intensity, and the West End has consistently delivered productions that honour the show's ambition. Beyond the spectacle, this is a deeply humane story about love, sacrifice, and the aftermath of war that leaves audiences shattered and uplifted in equal measure.
Practical information for visitors
Miss Saigon plays periodically in the West End. Check current listings for venue and dates. The show deals with war, exploitation, and loss, and is recommended for teenagers and adults. Running time is approximately two hours and forty-five minutes including an interval.

For more epic musicals, Les Misérables is the obvious companion piece (same composers). Hamilton offers another perspective on revolution and its consequences, while The Phantom of the Opera provides comparable theatrical grandeur.
