Casting Continues for Major West End Revival of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Landmark Musical
The West End revival of Evita, directed by Jamie Lloyd, has announced its latest casting addition: Diego Andrés Rodriguez will star as Che, opposite Rachel Zegler as Eva Perón. This strictly limited engagement will run at the London Palladium from 14 June to 6 September 2025, with an official opening night on Tuesday 1 July.
Produced by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and The Jamie Lloyd Company, the new staging reimagines Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical for a new generation.
A West End Debut for Rodriguez
Rodriguez, who recently made his professional debut in Jamie Lloyd’s Sunset Blvd. on Broadway, is set to make his West End debut in Evita. In that production, he originated the role of Artie and understudied the lead, Joe Gillis.

Jamie Lloyd commented,
“Diego is an incredible young actor and a fantastic vocalist. We’re thrilled he’s joining Evita in the West End.”
Rodriguez added,
“Playing Che opposite Rachel at the historic London Palladium is a dream come true. This opportunity means the world to me.”
A Bold New Take on a Modern Musical Classic
Evita tells the story of Eva Perón, the Argentine First Lady who rose from poverty to political power, inspiring millions and dividing a nation. The score includes some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs, including:
“Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”
“Oh What a Circus”
“Another Suitcase in Another Hall”
“You Must Love Me” (Oscar winner for Best Original Song)
This new production marks a return to Evita for director Jamie Lloyd, who previously directed a critically acclaimed version at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2019. More casting and creative announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
About the Creative Team
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber first collaborated in the 1960s and went on to create Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita. Both have since earned EGOT status (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) and international acclaim for their contributions to musical theatre.
Jamie Lloyd is one of the UK’s most acclaimed directors, known for bold reinterpretations of classic texts and musicals, including Sunset Blvd., A Doll’s House, Cyrano de Bergerac, and Romeo & Juliet. His productions have received Olivier, Tony and Critics' Circle Awards, and have played in the West End, on Broadway, and internationally.
With a starry cast led by Rachel Zegler and Diego Andrés Rodriguez, and visionary direction from Jamie Lloyd, Evita at the London Palladium promises to be one of the most talked-about theatrical events of the year. Combining iconic music with a fresh creative perspective, this landmark production reintroduces a musical legend to a new audience.
