Divine casting for new pop musical Mythic at Charing Cross Theatre

Final casting has been announced for the world premiere of Mythic, a pop musical based on the classical Greek story of Persephone, at London’s Charing Cross Theatre.

Mythic cast includes Georgie Westall, Genevieve McCarthy, Daniella Bowen, Michael Mather, Tim Oxbrow Persephone will be played by Georgie Westall whose previous credits include Siren in Myth: The Rise and Fall of Orpheus at The Other Palace, The Wind in the Willows on UK tour and at the London Palladium and Eugenius! at the London Palladium.

She struggles to find her own path in the face of the expectations of her mother, Demeter, who will be played by Daniella Bowen. Her previous roles include Rita in Made in Dagenham at Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, Ali in Mamma Mia! and Christine in The Beautiful Game at the Union Theatre.

Persephone's wish for independence comes back to bite her when she gets trapped in Hell with perennial bad boy, Hades, who will be played by Michael Mather making his professional debut after training at Mountview. The journey that follows is described as an “offbeat, emotionally-charged tale for ancient and modern times”.

Making her professional London debut, Australian actor Genevieve McCarthy has been cast as Aphrodite while Zeus will be played by Tim Oxbrow who was Markevitch and first cover for the leading role of Falco in Bat Out of Hell in the West End and Toronto as well as Judas on the UK tour of Jesus Christ Superstar and Freddie Trumper in Chess at the Union Theatre.

The cast also features Eloise Davies, Courtney Brogan Smalley, Jade Marvin, Jamie Ross, Ben Welch and Ben Lancaster.

With book and lyrics by Marcus Stevens and music by Oran Eldor, Mythic turns the ancient Greek story of Persephone on its head, with the gods as chart-topping rock stars, power-hungry politicians and professional VIPs.

The director and choreographer is Sarah O’Gleby, with design by Lee Newby, lighting design by Jamie Platt and sound design by Andrew Johnson. The musical supervisor is Chris Hatt and the musical director Chris Ma, with Michael Jon Slinger as associate director/choreographer.

Casting was by Harry Blumenau for Debbie O’Brien Casting. The show is being produced by Steven M Levy and Vaughan Williams for Charing Cross Theatre Productions.

Mythic runs at Charing Cross Theatre from 1 October to 25 November 2018.
