Kenneth Graham first wrote The Wind In The Willows in 1908. It was rejected for publication and even after being published, sales remained slow. It was only following the books enormous success in the USA that it became popular in the UK.A stage adaptation called Toad Of Toad Hall was originally written by Winnie The Pooh author A.A. Milne in 1929.

Kenneth Grahame was originally a banker, and was Secretary of the Bank Of England.
