The Society Of London Theatres has announced that the Olivier Awards 2020 due to be held on the 5 April have been cancelled. A range of special tv and radio programmes will take their place celebrating the awards Greatest Moments.

The Society Of London Theatres has cancelled this year's Olivier Awards due to be held on 5 April and released the following statement:-

It is with deep regret that we have to announce the cancellation of the Olivier Awards 2020 with Mastercard at the Royal Albert Hall on 5 April.

Following the government’s new advice on social distancing yesterday and the subsequent closing of many theatres and public venues, we no longer feel that it is feasible to host the ceremony that we had planned to deliver.

The Royal Albert Hall has announced that it is closed until further notice.

We would like to thank all nominees, shows, producers, theatres, sponsors, suppliers and creatives for their ongoing support.

ITV will broadcast a special Olivier Awards with Mastercard programme on Sunday 5 April at 10:15pm, in place of the 2020 Royal Albert Hall awards show.

Hosted by Jason Manford, the hour-long ‘Olivier Awards – Greatest Moments’ programme will look back at Olivier Awards ceremonies over the past ten years, with archive footage of performances and speeches, and a celebration of some of the many Olivier Award-winning productions – including Dreamgirls, Hamilton, The Book Of Mormon, Disney’s The Lion King and the RSC’s Matilda The Musical. Official radio partner Magic Radio will broadcast a special programme from 6pm to 8pm on the same evening, also celebrating the best Olivier Awards moments, alongside a weekend of shows on Magic’s new musical theatre station Magic at the Musicals.

All tickets for the cancelled awards ceremony will be refunded, and the Royal Albert Hall will be in touch with all ticket holders. We appreciate your patience while we reach out to everyone.
