What is Kinky Boots about?
When Charlie Price inherits his family's struggling Northampton shoe factory, saving the business – and his relationship – feels impossible. Until he meets Lola, a fabulous drag queen with an outrageous sense of style and very specific footwear needs. Together, they hatch a bold plan: create a line of thigh-high boots sturdy enough for drag artists. It's an unlikely partnership that changes both their lives.
Is Kinky Boots based on a true story?
Yes! Kinky Boots is inspired by the true story of Steve Pateman, who saved his family's shoe factory by diversifying into fetish footwear. The 2005 film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor told this story, and the stage musical expanded it with Cyndi Lauper's showstopping score.
