Kings don't kill their wives, right? Ava Pickett's award-winning debut play explores female friendship in Tudor England as three women witness history ripple through their rural lives. Starring Liv Hill, Siena Kelly and Tanya Reynolds. Book tickets for this five-star West End transfer!
Tudor England. A field in Essex. Three women hurry to their childhood meeting place, thirsty for gossip from London. Word spreads of a clash between King Henry VIII and his Queen, Anne Boleyn. And closer to home, another rumour begins to catch fire.
As these women begin to see echoes of the royal drama in their own rural lives and a rise in violence spreads throughout the land, the actions of a queen imprisoned in a tower threaten to cost them everything. Book 1536 tickets at the Ambassadors Theatre!
Following a sold-out, critically acclaimed run at the Almeida Theatre, Ava Pickett's razor-sharp, darkly comic debut transfers to the West End. Winner of the 2024 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and Best Writer at the 2025 Stage Debut Awards, 1536 is "effortlessly funny, bold and ballsy" (Guardian).
Liv Hill (Three Girls), Siena Kelly (Adult Material) and Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education) reprise their acclaimed performances as Jane, Anna and Mariella. Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Productions are co-producing.
Fans of SIX the Musical may enjoy this alternative take on Tudor history that centres women's experiences rather than royal drama.
Cancellation policy: theatre tickets cannot be cancelled, exchanged, or refunded once purchased.
Liv Hill as Jane, Siena Kelly as Anna, Tanya Reynolds as Mariella. Additional casting to be announced.
Written by Ava Pickett, directed by Lyndsey Turner (Chimerica). Design by Max Jones, lighting by Jack Knowles, sound by Tingying Dong, movement/intimacy by Anna Morrissey, music by Will Stuart.
1536 runs from 2 May to 1 August 2026 at the Ambassadors Theatre in the West End.

violence and explicit content.
No – while both explore Tudor history
