Hangmen, the award-winning Martin McDonagh play directed by Matthew Dunster began performances on 28 February at the Golden Theatre ahead of its scheduled 19 March opening.

Producers have issued a statement saying:- "Given our show’s budget and capitalization, we do not have the economic resources to be able to continue to pay the theatre owners, cast, and crew through this still undefined closure period. Therefore, in the interests of all involved, we regretfully have no choice but to close the show," said producers Robert Fox, Jean Doumanian, Elizabeth I. McCann and Craig Balsam in a joint statement. "We are all extremely disappointed that we cannot give Martin McDonagh and our fabulous director, cast and team the celebrated opening they all deserve."

In his small pub in the northern English town of Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what's the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they've abolished hanging?

Amongst the cub reporters and pub regulars dying to hear Harry’s reaction to the news, his old assistant Syd and the peculiar Mooney lurk with very different motives for their visit.

Hangmen came to Broadway following a hugely successful critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run at the Atlantic Theatre Company which starred Mark Addy (Harry), Gaby French (Shirley) Owen Campbell (Clegg) John Horton (Arthur) and Richard Hollis (Bill).

For the Broadway production, they were being joined by Tracie Bennett (Alice), Ewen Bremner (Syd), Jeremy Critchley (Inspector Fry), Josh Goulding (Hennessy), John Hodgkinson (Pierrepoint), Ryan Pope (Charlie) and Dan Stevens (Mooney).

Hangmen featured set and costume designs by Anna Fleischle, lighting design by Joshua Carr and sound design by Ian Dickinson for Autograph.
