Chichester Festival Theatre Festival 2022 announces programme for 60th anniversary

Chichester Festival Theatre's Festival 2022 has been announced today by Artistic Director Daniel Evans and Executive Director Kathy Bourne.

The Chichester Festival Theatre Festival 2022 will include six world premiere productions, three musicals, five new plays and three co-productions. There will also be a roster of special events to mark the 60th anniversary season including Digital Stages, Culture Spark celebrates Chicxhester's Cultural Community and Young Voices, Family Fun and CFT Lates.

Musical Theatre programming sees award-winning Broadway icon Susan Stroman making her Chichester debut directing and choreographing Charlie Stemp in a revival of Crazy For You with music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, book by Ken Ludwig. Local Hero - a musical with book by David Greig and music and lyrics by Mark Knopfler based on the Bill Forsyth film directed by Daniel Evans. The Famous Five - a new musical with music and lyrics by Theo Jamieson, book by Elinor Cook based on Enid Blyton's books to be directed by Tamara Harvey in a co-production with Theatr Clwyd.

Chichester Festival 2022

Five new plays including three delayed from 2020 are to be produced including new plays The Taxidermist's Daughter by Kate Mosse and Our Generation by Alecky Blythe. The Unfriend by Steven Moffat, with Amanda Abbington, Frances Barber and Reece Shearsmith directed by Marl Gatiss. The Narcissist by Christopher Shinn directed by Josh Seymour and Stephen Beresford's The Southbury Child with Alex Jennings directed by Nicholas Hytner . The season will also include Agatha Christie's Murder On The Orient Express adapted by Ken Ludwig and directed by Jonathan Church with Henry Goodman playing Poirot. Alan Ayckbourn's Woman In Mind directed by Justin Martin and Roy William's Sing Yer Heart Out For The Lads with Nicole Charles recreating her acclaimed Chichester production. Chichester Festival Youth Theatre will present Alan Bennett's adaptation of Kenneth Graham's The Wind In The Willows, with music and additional lyrics by Jeremy Sams.
