Bette Midler returns to Hello Dolly! on Broadway

Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce will return to Hello Dolly! on Broadway prior to the show's closure on August 25, 2018.

Bette Midler as Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly! Photo: Matthew Murphy Producer Scott Rudin has announced that Bette Midler will return to Hello Dolly! at Broadway's Shubert Theatre for six weeks only from July 17.

Bernadette Peters, has been playing the role opposite Victor Garber as Horace Vandergelder. Both Peters and Garber will play their last performance on July 15, 2018.

David Hyde Pierce will return to the role of Vandergelder alongside Midler.

In a press release dated Friday Bette Midler said: "I am delighted to return to the scene of one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I know the brilliant Bernadette Peters enjoyed her turn as much as I did, Dolly Levi is one of the most joyful characters in Broadway history, and Bernadette and I were lucky to be able to step into her glorious shoes.” David Hyde Pierce said: “Bette Midler is a crazy woman and I can’t wait to get back on stage with her." Helly Dolly! has music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, and a book by Michael Stewart which is based on Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker. Hello Dolly! is directed by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Warren Carlyle.

Hello Dolly! opened on Broadway on April 20, 2017 and starts a US national tour starring Betty Buckley which goes out on the road this fall.
