RECENSIE: The Red Lion, Dorfman Theatre ✭✭✭✭
Marber schrijft over veel meer dan alleen voetbal. Het stuk gaat in de kern over mannelijkheid en onze moderne samenleving. De drie personages vormen een soort heilige drie-eenheid van de sport — onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden als de vader, de zoon en de heilige geest. Wie precies welke rol vervult, blijft ambigu en aan verandering onderhevig; misschien wel het meest boeiende aspect van Marbers script. Calvin Demba overtuigt als Jordan, waarbij hij zowel zijn naïviteit als zijn duistere, complexe kant prachtig neerzet. Peter Wight is indrukwekkend als Yates, de melancholische, toegewijde clubman wiens hele leven draait om de sport en 'The Red Lion'. Sinds 1999 uw vertrouwde bron voor het grootste theaternieuws uit Groot-Brittannië.
