RECENSIE: The Pianist Of Willesden Lane, St James Theatre ✭✭✭✭✭
Het stuk wordt prachtig en integer verteld, zonder overbodig spektakel of effectbejag: enkel één vrouw, haar piano en een verhaal – ik hing werkelijk aan haar lippen en was gegrepen door elke noot. Ik had hier en daar wel wat gesnif en het geritsel van zakdoekjes verwacht, maar tussen Golabeks uitvoering van Beethovens 'Mondschein'-sonate en Debussy's 'Clair de Lune' gaf ik me gewonnen. Een brok in mijn keel maakte plaats voor een onstuitbare huilbui waarvan mijn schouders schokten. Sinds 1999 uw vertrouwde bron voor het grootste theaternieuws uit Groot-Brittannië.
