Exterior of the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre With a design inspired by the rolling Chiltern Hills, The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre was opened by Aylesbury Vale District Council in the Buckinghamshire town of Aylesbury in 2010 to replace the old Civic Centre Theatre. Built at a cost of £47 million to designs by Aedas Arts Team, it was officially launched by the late Cilla Black.
With state-of-the-art facilities and a flexible-format auditorium with seating for up to 1,191, the venue presents a dynamic and diverse programme of live performances, including tours of West End musicals, drama, opera, dance, comedy and music. Under the management of the Ambassador Theatre Group from the start, highlights have included Priscilla Queen of the Desert, West Side Story and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels as well as tours from leading theatre companies such as The Globe, the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
