Full casting has been announced for Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children at Shakespeare's Globe, running from 7 May to 27 June 2026. This marks the first time the play has been presented at the historic Bankside venue.

Michelle Terry Leads the Cast

Globe artistic director Michelle Terry will star in the title role in Anna Jordan's new translation of Brecht's anti-war masterpiece. The production is directed by Globe associate artist Elle While, with music by James Maloney and design by takis.

The company includes Rawaed Asde as Swiss Cheese, Rachelle Diedericks as Kattrin, Vinnie Heaven as Eilif, Nadine Higgin as Yvette, Ferdy Roberts as Minister, Max Runham as Narrator, Nicolas Tennant as Chef, and Simon Scardifield in multiple roles.

A Timely Revival

Director While described the project as "totally exhilarating", calling it "a fantastically talented and huge-hearted cast" for "this most pertinent play for our current times." Brecht's 1939 play about a canteen woman profiting from the Thirty Years' War while losing her children remains one of the most powerful anti-war dramas ever written.

Visiting the Globe

Shakespeare's Globe on London's South Bank offers a unique open-air theatrical experience. For those interested in exploring the venue, guided tours of the Globe are available year-round. The Globe's 2026 season is shaping up to be one of its most ambitious, and play lovers will find plenty to explore across the West End and beyond.
