Our story
British Theatre began in 1999 as a place to find out what was genuinely worth seeing on a British stage. More than a quarter of a century later, that is still the job. We publish daily theatre news, reviews written by critics who pay attention rather than copy press releases, and practical guides to London's theatres, and we sell official tickets to every West End show.
In 2026, British Theatre was acquired by tickadoo, the experiences platform built by the founders of London Theatre Direct. That heritage matters here: London Theatre Direct began selling official West End tickets in 1999, the same year this site published its first coverage. Between the publication and the people now behind it, British Theatre carries 26 years of front-row experience in the London theatre industry, with direct relationships with producers, venues and box offices.
That is why ticketing on British Theatre works the way it should: official allocations, live pricing, interactive seat maps so you choose exactly where you sit, and a customer team that knows the difference between the stalls and the dress circle.
Three dates that matter
1999
britishtheatre.com publishes its first West End coverage. The same year, the future founders of tickadoo begin selling official London theatre tickets as London Theatre Direct.
2000s
The site grows into one of the UK's most-read independent theatre publications, building an archive of more than 7,300+ news stories, reviews and interviews across the West End and regional theatre.
2026
British Theatre is acquired by tickadoo and relaunches its booking experience: official tickets for every West End show, with seat selection and live pricing, alongside the same independent journalism.
What we do
News and reviews
Daily theatre news, honest reviews and interviews from critics who actually sit in the seats. Our archive goes back to 1999 and covers the West End, Off-West End and regional stages.
Read the latest →Official tickets
Official allocations for every West End show, with interactive seat maps and live pricing. Ticketing is powered by tickadoo, with secure checkout and mobile e-tickets.
Browse tickets →Venue and show guides
Practical guides to 215 theatres: how to get there, what the box office hours are, and what is on. Plus running times, age guidance and audience ratings on every show page.
Explore venues →How we review
Reviews on British Theatre are independent of the box office. A show never gets a kinder write-up because it sells tickets here, and audience ratings shown on show pages come from verified ticket buyers, not from us. When we get something wrong, we correct it and say so. If you spot an error, tell us via the contact page.
