Buckland Theatre Co. have revealed plans for a powerful new version of August Strindberg’s Miss Julie.
Translated by Michael Meyer, Miss Julie will open at Camden’s intimate Etcetera Theatre this February, taking over the space entirely for the duration of its four-week run.
Strindberg’s masterly study of class, desire, and the ties that bind us caused a scandal when it was first performed, and, according to the company, remains searingly relevant today.
Directed by Gary Condés, the production will feature Laura Greenwood (Pinprick, Prime Suspect, Messiah, Holby Blue, Strike Back, Silk, Casualty, Echo Beach, Hit and Miss) as Miss Julie, Charlie Dorfman as Jean and Danielle Henry (Emmerdale, Doctors) as Kristin, with set and costume design by Carla Goodman and lighting and sound design by Joe Price.
Buckland Theatre Co. was founded by Charlie Dorfman (actor and producer) in the spirit of collaboration and exploration, providing opportunities for creative investigation in a supportive environment. It has run weekly readings since April 2015, covering great works from Tennessee Williams, Eugene O’Neill, August Wilson and more.
Miss Julie is the company’s debut production in a season of classic and modern texts to be announced later this year.
Miss Julie plays at Etcetera Theatre from 24 February - 19 March 2016
