Tonight Sunset Boulevard with Glenn Close joins Lloyd Webber’s productions of Cats, The Phantom Of The Opera and Andrew’s latest hit School Of Rock which are currently playing on Broadway. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical School Of Rock opened in London’s West End last night (14 November). The New London Theatre played host to guests including Ben Aldridge, David Baddiel, Duchess of York, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Jimmy Carr, Julian Fellowes, Blake Harrison, David Haye, Patricia Hodge, Jodie Kidd, Myleene Klass, Andrew and Madeleine Lloyd Webber, Giftie Louise, Conor Maynard, Michael McIntyre, Freddy Parker, Arlene Phillips, Cliff Richard, Gaby Roslin, Janet Street-Porter, Sean Walsh and Vogue Williams. Starring David Fynn as Dewey and three casts of the most incredibly talented young performers ever, School of Rock is now booking until 12 February 2017. It has to be said: Marianne Benedict as Grizabella gives the best rendition of the infamous show tune that I have ever heard; with the climactic crescendo, her pipes burst with such raw integrity and the uninterrupted audience applause (which will undoubtedly be repeated at each performance) is whole-heartedly deserved.

Phantom Celebrates 30 Years in Style

The Phantom Of The Opera London 30th Birthday celebration

Last night, The Phantom Of The Opera London celebrated its 30th Anniversary at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London. At the end of the performance held in aid of The Music In Secondary Schools Trust, a special finale took place that included the current Phantom Ben Forster,  Celinde Schoenmaker (Christine Daae and Raoul (Nadim Naaman). Joining them on stage were producer Cameron Mackintosh, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, choreographer Gillian Lynne and members of the original company including original Phantom Michael Crawford, alongside Michael Ball, Sierra Boggess and John Owen Jones. Sierra’s bilingual rendition of Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again proved a highlight of the proceedings. The special finale was streamed last night via Facebook with over 530,000 people watching. Andrew Lloyd Webber has announced that David Flynn will play the coveted role of Dewey Finn in the upcoming London production of School Of Rock at the New London Theatre. Flynn has been seen in The Inbetweeners, Sherlock and Game Of Thrones, he appeared in the Donmar’s production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
