Where Are They Going are to bring Mandi Riggi's gay drama Leviticus to the Edinburgh Fringe 2018.
It is the mid-90's, the dot-com millionaires are kings... Austin and his wife Jess host a dinner party to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of old friends Robert and Stacia. Appearances must be kept up. The boys have a secret that the ladies should learn about, but how do you tell your best friend that you feel it too?
Founded in April 2017 by Sawyer Spielberg, Raye Levine, Eric Svendsen and Brynne Kraynak, Where Are They Going’s first production was called 'Extinction' written by Gabe McKinley. It was met with acclaim, "Heartbreakingly raw!"-Newsday. Sawyer Spielberg doesn't fall far from the tree following in his fathers footsteps of story telling in the form of acting and producing with a strong team working together to produce original and provocative new plays.
This piece takes a darkly comedic look at keeping up appearances in an age where any computer geek could be rich as Croesus. Austin and Robert are old childhood friends who have lost touch, until Robert rings Austin out of the blue to be his best man.
Robert and Austin have a darker and much deeper connection. They have a harrowing homosexual experience in common. Bound by their shameful secret of conversion therapy and rape for ten years, over the course of several Kiwi Margarita's the truth unfurls itself, with explosive consequences…
WATC's latest commission is from Mandi Riggi and directed by Abigail Zealey Bess. Mandi has written several plays that have been performed Off-Broadway including Mercy and a Baby’s Arm Holding An Apple and a TV pilot that was picked up by the Showtime Network in the US. Abigiail directed Paper Doll at last years Edinburgh Fringe and the NY Fringe Winner The Radicalization of Rolfe in 2016. In collaboration with both Mandi & Abigail, WATC have inspired and developed the characters in Leviticus to create a show that is cruel and at points heart-breaking, yet also hilarious and poignant.
Leviticus will play ZOO Charteris (Venue 124) from 3 - 27th August 2018 at Noon at the Edinburgh Fringe
