Paines Plough is to take the hugely acclaimed show Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan on a new tour across the UK as well as to Ireland and France.

Beginning at Quarry Theatre in Bedford on May 2, it will visit over 25 venues, performed by James Rowland who won plaudits during the 2017 tour of the play in Australia and New Zealand.

On May 17, the production will, for the first time, be performed simultaneously in Sheffield and Paris, with Jonny Donahoe – the show’s original performer – stepping into the role in France.

A play about depression and the ones we love, Every Brilliant Thing was developed with Paines Plough over a decade ago by Duncan Macmillan, whose other hit plays include 1984 with Robert Icke and People Places and Things.

It has had a number of guises including an exhibition, a Facebook group and an installation before becoming a theatre production in 2013. It has now been seen by over 42,000 people across the world and performed over 350 times across three continents and nine countries.  After it was performed to 7,500 people in the 2014/15 Off Broadway season, HBO broadcasted Every Brilliant Thing across North America in December last year.

James Rowland has previously worked across theatre, radio and television, most recently appearing in immersive theatre productions such as The Crystal Maze, Heist and You Once Said Yes. He has also performed musical comedy and is a member of cabaret band The Idiot Circus. He performed his debut storytelling show Team Viking in London and Edinburgh, winning the Origins Award at London’s Vault Festival last year.

Every Brilliant Thing is part of Paines Plough’s 2017 programme which will see the company present some of the most exciting playwrights on tour to more than 60 places across the UK and around the world.  Every Brilliant Thing is supported by Anne McMeehan and Jim Roberts and was developed with the support of nabokov and the Jersey Arts Trust.
