Curiously colour-changing drinks and other cocktails will be served up this spring and summer at the Wonderland Bar, a theatrical bar inspired by hit show Alice’s Adventures Underground at The Vaults in London.
The Wonderland Bar has been created beneath Waterloo station by production company EBP with theatre company Les Enfants Terribles, operating until September 23. Running Tuesdays to Sundays, it is open to anyone, not just ticket-holders.
As well as a selection of bars serving themed food and drink, it features flamingo croquet and other immersive experiences plus visits by some of the characters from the show that opens tomorrow (April 25).
Who Stole All The Tarts? Cocktails, created by food and drink flavour pioneers Smith & Sinclair, include the Deluxe Tea Party Cocktail, a dark gin-based drink made with camomile, green tea, peppermint, Aperol, triple sec and spiced liqueur which changes colour after you stir it with a lemon lollypop. Others include Just a Half a Cup of Tea, a foamy gin, Earl Grey tea and citrus cocktail topped with popping candy, and Who Stole All The Tarts?, made with vodka and rhubarb shaken with lemon and sweetened with a dollop of jam, topped off with one of the Queen of Hearts’ jam tarts.
Alice’s Adventures Underground, conceived by Les Enfants Terribles out of Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s stories, returns after being a sell-out success in 2015, including an Olivier Award nomination. With a host of new characters, the immersive show runs to September 23, 2017, promising a puppetry-packed fusion of storytelling, music, circus and spectacle.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday 5.30pm – 11.00pm; Friday 5.30pm – 2.00am; Saturday 1.30pm – 2.00am and Sunday 1.30pm – 6.30pm
Address: The Vaults, Launcelot Street, London SE1 7AD
