Joseph to be an animated film thanks to Elton John's Rocket Pictures

Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat is to be an animated film. It was announced today that Elton John's Rocket Pictures has acquired the rights to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, which it intends to produce as an animated film.

The Really Useful Group's Managing Director Barney Wragg says "Developing Joseph as a new feature film marks the beginning of a new stage in the Really Useful Group's plans to co-produce and fund new films, television and stage productions from our theatrical shows which play continuously worldwide"

Originally created as a work for schools, Joseph is currently the most performed musical in history being performed thousands of times each year by theatre groups all over the world. It is estimated that over 26 million people have seen the show allowing it to amass a global box office of approximately £400 million.

Tim Rice says "I have always thought Joseph was a strong contender for an animation production, and I'm delighted that this is now going to happen."
