WHAT IS MY NIGHT WITH REG ABOUT?

At Guy’s London flat, old friends and new gather to party through the night. This is the summer of 1985, and for Guy and his circle the world is about to change forever. Deliciously funny and bittersweet, My Night with Reg perfectly captures the fragility of friendship, happiness and life itself.

It would be easy to dismiss this play as “an AIDS play” but it is nothing of the kind. It’s a play about relationships; a comedy about sexual politics, social pressures and norms, with a dark and savage underbelly. It’s poetic and achingly sad in some moments, stupidly silly in others. But it has a resonant and vibrant pulse which throbs louder and truer now than it did when the play first premiered.

NIGHTS WITH REG

My Night With Reg was first presented in 1994 by the Royal Court Theatre  before transferring into the West End.  This current production was presented was presented at London's Donmar Warehouse earlier this year and transfers to the Apollo Theatre for 11 weeks only.

On its premiere, Kevin Elyot’s comedy won both Olivier and Evening Standard Awards. Donmar Associate Director Robert Hastie’s 20th Anniversary revival was hailed by audiences and critics alike, confirming its status as a classic of modern British theatre.

FUN FACT

Despite being the character in the title, Reg never appears in the play. The whole plot revolves around his promiscuity and the subsequent deceptions and betrayals caused by it.
