The Union Theatre and The Phil Willmott Company have announced a double bill to be staged at the Union Theatre in early 2016.
The season will include the UK professional premiere of Brecht's Fear And Misery Of The Third Reich, Stephen Sondheim's Road Show and an Autumn transfer of Queen Lear by Shakespeare from the Union Theatre to the Tristan Bates Theatre.
Fear and Misery In The Third Reich is a powerful, tragic and surprisingly funny play by Germany's most influential playwright which shows people just like us, facing a tide of seemingly unstoppable evil.
Brecht asks us to consider how we'd react if (or when) fanaticism were to unexpectedly grip our cosy world.
In an interlinked series of snap shots from Hitler's Germany children inform on parents, justice becomes a joke, old loyalties mean nothing and mere survival demands ruthless cunning.
The double bill also sees the first UK revival of Road Show with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and Book by John Weidman.
At the turn of the last century old Pa Meisner sends his sons, the charming and ruthless Wilson and the thoughtful, unambitious Addison off to make their fortune.
The ill matched pair embark on the story of their lifetime across the U.S. stopping off at some of the key moments which shaped modern America.
Audiences will be given another chance to see Ursula Mohan’s extraordinary performance in Phil Willmott’s critically acclaimed Union Theatre production of Shakespeare’s masterpiece Queen Lear, that places a queen’s relationship with her daughter at the heart of the tragedy. Fear And Misery Of The Third Reich runs from 6 - 30 January 2016 at the Union Theatre Road Show runs from 3 February - 5 March 2016 at the Union Theatre Queen Lear runs from 20 September to 8 October 2016 at the Tristan Bates Theatre
