Two Shakespeare plays are to be performed in the gardens of pubs around London and the south this summer in a partnership between Fuller’s Inns and theatre company Open Bar.
Returning for another year, the Shakespeare in the Garden tour will feature performances of Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 29 different pubs as well as the Fuller’s brewery in Chiswick. The shows will come to pubs around London and in Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey and Bath.
To tie in with each performance, each pub will offer fresh food, including gourmet bar snacks and bespoke pre-performance pub menus, alongside their selection of beers, wines and spirits.
Jonathon Swaine, managing director of Fuller’s Inns, said: “I am thrilled to be welcoming Open Bar Theatre back for another year – not for one show but two of Shakespeare’s famous plays.
“This is always a personal highlight in the Fuller’s event calendar. For me, nothing beats relaxing in a pub on a warm summer’s evening, enjoying a delicious pint and watching some first-class entertainment.”
From Thursday 12 July to Thursday 2 August, Open Bar will put on 15 performances of Much Ado About Nothing across 12 Fuller’s pubs. Then from Tuesday 31 July until Saturday 15 September, the company will stage 27 performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 17 pubs and, for the first time in Shakespeare in the Garden history, at the brewery itself.
Swaine added: “It is brilliant that Shakespeare in the Garden is making its debut at our Griffin Brewery in Chiswick – our wisteria is the perfect setting for A Midsummer Night’s Dream and I cannot wait to see how creative the actors will be with this unique setting.”
