Great staff and feel and really interesting toilets with chalk boards! It is at the bottom if a very steep slope though which is difficult to navigate on crutches and I would hate to try it with a wheelchair! The small bar has a good range of drinks but while there is a small level area the slope continues all around this and there is no seating in this slanted foyer. The theatre itself is great. You can see from everywhere and it's cosy yet professional.
The venue itself was very intimate, relaxed and welcoming. The show I saw was The Process. It was absolutely incredible, emotional, overwhelming and ingenious. Really got you to think and feel the difficulties for BSL speakers as well as encompassing the "every person" experience. Completely excellent! Well done!
I had heard a lot about this theatre, so naturally I was pretty excited to finally check it out! I went to see their show called Abigail. I had heard that it was a heavy subject matter of a show, and it was. In brief, it's about a couple in a physically and emotionally abusive relationship without a way out. The show bounces from the present, back into the past, showing the slow degradation of their relationship while hinting at a sinister past in the woman's childhood. The set was smart, piles of moving boxes among a shower, fridge and a large white block. The set was used to represent a mountain and other settings from the past, with the help of the audience's imagination. Overall the show wasn't one of my favourites, not because of the subject matter, but more so that I never connected with the characters or bought into their struggle and issues. I enjoyed the theatre, with it's mix of seating, including some very comfy chairs, basement feel and open air concept (although the day I went was a bit cold). I look forward to seeing more shows here and enjoying the bar which serves up drinks.
We went to see ‘Welcome to the UK’. A beautifully done satirical play on immigration in the UK. Nice little theatre.
