Disney Theatrical has announced that their musical Beauty and the Beast is to tour the UK and Ireland in 2021. The Beauty and the Beast UK Tour 2021 has announced changes to initial schedule.
Disney Theatrical has announced that a new stage production of Beauty and the Beast is set to take to the stage in the UK from May 2021. Whilst there had been rumours of the musical being revived on Broadway, the announcement of the Beauty and the Beast UK Tour indicates a change of plans.
STOP PRESS 15 FEBRUARY – Please read tour update at bottom of this post. Leicester Curve season now cancelled.
Based on the award-winning Disney animated feature of the same name, Beauty and the Beast follows the story of a young prince, imprisoned in the form of a Beast, who can be freed only by true love. What may be his only opportunity arrives when he meets Belle, the only human girl to ever visit the castle since it was enchanted.
Spectacularly reimagined in startling new designs which will use the latest theatrical innovations, this timeless romantic tale will be brought to life on stage like never before, with all the charm and elegance audiences expect from Belle and her Beast.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast opened on Broadway in 1994 before having its UK premiere at London’s Dominion Theatre in 1997 winning the 1998 Olivier Award for Best Musical. UK Productions then toured the musical from 2001.
Beauty and the Beast features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and a book by Linda Wolverton.
This new Beauty, while retaining the lush period sound of the Oscar-winning and Tony®-nominated score – which brought classics including Be Our Guest and Beauty and the Beast, as well as Change in Me, added to the musical production in 1998 and retained thereafter – will be heard afresh with new dance arrangements by David Chase, allowing original choreographer Matt West to re-visit his work. Longtime Menken collaborators Michael Kosarin and Danny Troob are musical supervisor/vocal arranger and orchestrator, respectively. Completing the design team, Tony®-winner John Shivers is sound designer, Darryl Maloney is the video and projections designer, and David H. Lawrence is hair designer. Jim Steinmeyer is the illusions designer, as he was on the original 1994 production.
Based on the 1991 film – the first animated feature ever nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture – Beauty and the Beast opened on Broadway in April 1994 and garnered nine Tony nominations and one win. It played for more than 13 years on Broadway, closing in 2007. It remains to this day – 26 years after it opened – among the top 10 longest-running shows in Broadway history. The live-action retelling of the animated classic quickly became the highest-grossing live-action film musical of all time in 2017, a record only beaten by The Lion King live-action released in 2019.

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT FROM DISNEY 15 March 2021
Whilst we cannot wait to bring our new production of Beauty and the Beast to theatres around the UK and Ireland, working with the information we have available, it is with sadness that we have to delay the opening of the tour. We understand the disappointment this will cause, but the health and wellbeing of our audiences, cast, crew and theatre staff have to remain paramount as we make plans to bring our shows back to the stage
Due to this delay we regret that we can no longer bring the show to the Curve. All ticket holders will receive a full refund which will be automatically processed. Due to the large volume of bookings affected this may take longer than usual to process. If you haven’t received your refund within 30 days, please contact your point of purchase.
BRISTOL & DUBLIN
Our new production of Beauty and the Beast will now open at the Bristol Hippodrome, with performances from 25 August 2021. Whilst we are not able to bring the show to Dublin this year, we have been able to reschedule the engagement to Christmas 2022. Performances at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre will now begin November 2022. Our box office teams will be contacting ticket holders in Dublin and Bristol by email with details of their new performance date. Within the email there will be the option to transfer your booking into an alternative performance/different seats (where possible), or request a full refund should the new performance dates not be suitable.
On behalf of everyone at Disney Theatrical Productions and our theatre partners, we sincerely thank everyone for their understanding and look forward to opening this brand new production as part of a long-awaited return to live performance around the UK and Ireland.
