We had a great time at Blackheath Uptown Festival. It wasn’t oversold and cramped, yes, it’s expensive for drinks and food but expected. Only selling Brewdog beer which was annoying. One thing that was a bit annoying, people put down their seats, blankets blow up things quite close to the stage making it near impossible to find a space to dance! Gok was absolutely amazing and Heather both really got everyone going, made the day for us. Boy George on the other hand was really disappointing for me, he made political comments and used obscenities while children were there. He kicked off with a David Bowie song and continued to slag everything off (quite pretentious) We left after the second song. Really wanted to hear his biggest hit but was over him. Before him we danced away and our sparkling white trainers were covered in dust, we laughed it off because it was worth it. Also the Subway stand was great, a free nibble, a chance to win a gift with the basketball stand and near the end a free hat that I love. The Subway team were great, got to have a chat with them when they had finished and they were absolutely brilliant, they had worked so hard all day so thank you guys and girls and people.👍 Nessa and Sue xx
A fantastic festival experience with great live music and very well organised. The heavens opened and it rained but we were lucky to have lots of cover in the VIP area in the tent so we were kept warm and dry and happy. Good well trained attentive staff and lots of people on hand to help if needed. There was a family VIP area which was lovely. Even though it poured it didn’t dampen our spirits and everyone seem to have a really good time. So good to have this on our doorstep and we will definitely return again for more next year if it’s done again, we really hope so.
Word of warning. Although the festival is advertised as a family day out with picnic tables and lots to do for kids. On entry, they confiscate food and pour out liquid contents. The security teams eat all the food confiscated. You see it on entry. You're then expected to buy over priced food. Ice cream £6.50. Meals £14. The sound system is poor. The event is weather dependent. There are lots of rides. But not worth £50 entry fee. Each ride is £5. Toilets hand sanitizer, so bring soap with you. There is a water fountain if you have an empty bottle. Save your money. Its not worth it.
Other than the great British weather lol I thoroughly enjoyed myself at Uptown. Billy Ocean was my reason for attending and he didn’t disappoint 🙌🏾 - My only thing is the gate didn’t open at 12noon as advertised but I assume that was due to the bad weather.
