Not only did I leave the Pleasance with a smile on my face, but Assassins also sent me into a tailspin of historical research when I got home, as I yearned to find out more about these intriguing characters.
The Union Theatre and The Phil Willmott Company have announced a double bill to be staged at the Union Theatre in early 2016. The season will include the UK professional premiere of Brecht’s Fear And Misery Of The Third Reich, Stephen Sondheim’s Road Show and an Autumn transfer of Queen Lear by Shakespeare from the Union Theatre to the Tristan Bates Theatre. Fear and Misery In The Third Reich is a powerful, tragic and surprisingly funny play by Germany’s most influential playwright which shows people just like us, facing a tide of seemingly unstoppable evil. Tony nominated actor Aaron Tveit will join the cast of Jamie Lloyd’s production of Assassins at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Assassins will make Tveit’s UK stage debut. His credits include Next To Normal on Broadway and the film of Les Miserables. He is currently appearing in the hit television police drama Graceland. Following its run at the Crucible theatre in Sheffield (28 November 2014 – 17 January 2015), the tour will open at the New Wimbledon Theatre Thursday 29 January 2015. This is as good a production of Pacific Overtures as anyone is likely to see. It’s well cast, mostly well sung, beautifully, almost hypnotically, staged, full of drama and intrigue
