Nicole Scherzinger to star as Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy Theatre this September.
Nicole Scherzinger is to star as immortal silent movie star Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy Theatre, London for a limited season.
The new production is to be directed by Jamie Lloyd who directed Evita at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
Haunted by her memories and dreams, movie star Norma Desmond yearns to return to the big screen. A struggling screenwriter who can’t sell his scripts to Hollywood studios may be her only hope, until their dangerous and compelling relationship leads to disastrous consequences.
Drenched in champagne and cynicism Sunset Boulevard scrutinises the ambitions and frustrations of its characters and their intoxicating need for fame and adoration.
Jamie Lloyd said today, “After our reappraisal of Evita at the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, I’m very excited to rediscover another iconic Lloyd Webber musical — and Sunset Boulevard is one of his most thrilling, complex and atmospheric scores. We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to create a new production of this fascinating piece with the extraordinary Nicole Scherzinger.”
Andrew Lloyd Webber also commented, “Nicole is one of the finest singers I have worked with, and I can’t wait to get started on this exciting show with her and the rest of this brilliant team.”
The score from Sunset Boulevard features musical numbers including With One Look, The Perfect Year and As If We Never Said Goodbye.
Sunset Boulevard features music by Lloyd Webber, with lyrics and book by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. The musical first opened in London in 1993, and on Broadway in 1994 with a recent London concert presentation at The London Coliseum starring Glenn Close. The musical won seven Tony Awards in 1995 including Best Musical.
Sunset Boulevard will be presented at the Savoy Theatre, London for a limited 16 week season from September 2023.
